Hi, my name is Susan Dizon Jimenez Gibbs. I am the artist behind Dizon Designs & Pudditat Reborns. I have been making clothes for my dolls since I was a little girl. All of my creations are one-of-a-kind. I do not use patterns or sketches in my work. I design and refine each piece in my mind's eye as I cut and sew. Hence, the impossibility of replication even if I wanted it. I named my clothing line Dizon Designs in honour of my teacher, my role-model, my inspiration, my mother, Rosario Dizon Jimenez. She taught me the art of sewing at a very young age.
Just a few years ago, I discovered the amazing world of Reborn Dolls. I started making doll clothing for collectors and doll artists around the world in 2009. I was amazed to see what a huge market it was!
As a collector myself, I am in awe of how these wonderful works of art bring joy to homes of all ages. I have always been interested in the painting process so I decided to try my hand at this 21st century art just towards the end of 2010. Now, I'm not just a doll-clothing seamstress, but a Reborn Artist as well.
The dolls that I make are not play dolls and not recommended for very young children. They are heirloom quality collectibles and need to be handled very gently. Many days and long hours were spent painting layer upon layer using LDC air- dry paint. I mix my own colours to create realistic skin tone. My baby dolls have micro-rooted silky-soft mohair. I root the hair one strand at a time using a very fine 43g German forked needle. The dolls are weighted with fine glass beads and poly-pellets, and stuffed with ultra soft fiber-fill for that cuddle factor. My babies love nothing more than to sit with you and cuddle. They are not made just to be displayed, but to be held, snuggled and most importantly to be loved forever.
